Features an audio read-along performed by James Earl Jones! Jonathan Toomey is the best woodcarver in the valley, but he is always alone and never smiles. No one knows about the mementos of his lost wife and child that he keeps in an unopened drawer. But one early winter's day, a widow and her young son approach him with a gentle request that leads to a joyful miracle. The moving, lyrical tale, gloriously illustrated by P.J. Lynch, has been widely hailed as a true Christmas classic.

I loved The Christmas Miracle Of Jonathan Toomey . It's a story of sadness and pain, kindness and generosity. The beautiful illustrations could tell the story without the word.

My mum bought this book the year it came out in 1995. It is a family classic now because of the tender message. Two families dealing with grief and hardship are brought together by wood carvings and kindness.

Talented woodworker Jonathan Toomey is gruff and bleak, taking little pleasure in his life after a tragic loss. When the widow McDowell and her seven-year-old son Thomas hire Toomey to carve a nativity, he begins to rediscover joy in his work and life again. This beautiful book stays with you long after the reading is over. It is a fabulous story of loss and healing, teaching and learning, and the quiet power of friendship to transform.

Yes, I get teary-eyed too when I read this one, but it's still one of my favorite Christmas stories.
