This is one of my all-time favourite books. The characters and stories are enticing, and the world is full of beauty and magic!

It's been a while since I read it, but I'll add to the many comments that I very much enjoyed this book. It had so much beautiful imagery and characters that I fell in love with. It's kind of a Steam Punk book.

I initially tried to listen to this on audio, was very confused, and stopped about a quarter of the way in. After some time, I decided to revisit it in print form. I really did enjoy the story. I'm a sucker for a book about a circus. Add magic to that, and it's even better. I was not a fan of the timeline, though. I found it difficult to follow the chain of events as the story jumped back and forth in time. I do appreciate the importance of all the threads, but it was just hard to follow for me. But I do have to say, the last fourth of the book finally really sucked me in, and it was a thrilling ride to the end.

I thought this book was just okay....the imagery was pretty incredible but the storyline was quite predictable and some parts were very confusing. I enjoyed the jumping around of the timeline, but I recommend if you are a visual person like me, that you keep a little cheat sheet to keep track of the events.
I think this would make for an excellent movie!

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I really enjoyed how time skipped around, so I could piece the story together on my own. This is not a mindless read where you can sit back and let the author do all the work. This book will make you think.

I absolutely fell in love with the circus. The way the author describes everything really puts you right in the story. Once I finished, I wanted to erase my mind so I could read it again for the first time.

This just may be my favorite book of all time. Celia and Marcos creations in the Night Circus are beautifully described and the characters are just so well written. I've read it a few times now and I discover something new each time.

SPOILER ALERT! I trudged halfway thru this gloomy book before giving up. I guess the fantasy genre isn’t my thing. This work requires one’s undivided attention. The time skips didn’t help and made for a confusing read. DNF. Just to make sure I didn't miss anything, (I didn’t) I googled the ending. Don’t hang on just to wait for ‘the duel’.

An absolutely magical novel that will make you wish desperately that you could visit a night circus and experience wonder. The setting alone is worth the read, but you'll be entranced by the characters too.

Captivating and enchanting, the Night Circus will transport you into its world of magic and romance with sensual descriptions of tastes, textures, smells, sounds, and sights. Two manipulators of matter use a circus like no other as their stage for competing illusions and fantastical creations in fin de siècle Europe. Their fleeting meetings over the years are electric, charged with desire and thwarted by an unbreakable bond. However, the star of the book is the circus: endless black and white striped tents are wandered by its patrons who experience its phantasms, sensory delights, and performances, partaking of fragrant concoctions and exquisite confections. The writing is beautiful and entrancing; you will wish that such a magical circus really existed for you to visit.

I for one do not agree with anyone who gave this book a bad review. It has depth, good character development, a quintessential love story, and best of all magic. Yes, there is still magic to be found in the world.

I absolutely love how this author writes. I ended up downloading the ebook when the audiobook stopped working (turns out a 4 hour stretch is too long for a playaway) and it still felt amazing and authentic.

This book singlehandedly continues to inspire me in my pursuit of a creative and magical setting for my D&D campaigns. I love the whimsical nature of Morgensterns storytelling, and the opportunity to imagine more possibilities for the setting.

"The Circus arrives without warning."

This is my favorite book, despite being a firm believer in not choosing favorites. Adventure, mystery, romance; a little bit of everything.

The audiobook is *Fabulous* too! Jim Dale is the best!

I don't know why everyone likes this book so much. I read it once, and found myself completely confused as to what was happening. The book was all over the place - perhaps that was the intent of the author, but it wasn't well done.

Some books, luckily, are not about the plot and even not about the characters or character development (why are so many people evaluating their readings on such things, like they are making analysis at school with template questions?), but about atmosphere and pure beauty. I was caught up in this book and liked it greatly.

This was a fantastic book - possibly my favourite book of the year, and the only one so far that made me not want to pick up another book after I finished this one, because I didn't want to leave this enchanted world that it sets up. I'm not even usually a fan of magical realism, but this book had me hooked from beginning to end. I'd definitely recommend it!

With the release of The Starless Sea I thought it would be a good idea to reread The Night Circus and remind myself of what, exactly, makes it so magical. I detest those marketing blurbs "this book is like if X-popular book met Y-popular book" but in the interest of time I do think it is valuable to say that Morgenstern's writing reminds me strongly of Carlos Ruiz Zafon. While the characters are important, it is the circus, the sense of wonder as both a reader and as experienced by visitors to the circus, that makes the book unforgettable. Fair warning: if you need a lot of action and reliance on plot, this may not be the book for you.

BUT, if you love atmospheric writing, you'll find yourself in good company with the Rêveurs of the Night Circus. The circus is the venue by which the magicians Celia and Marco will compete for dominance, but the circus, for them, becomes the outward manifestation of their hopes and fears. Just as a circus isn't meant only for the performers, the circus: its magic, its allure and its strife, draws unsuspecting players, and readers, under its spell.

A fantastical love story spans the last decades of the Victorian era; all while traveling the world in a magical black and white circus that is open only at night. Two illusionists bound to a challenge at a young age, not meeting until their early 20’s and then a few more years to know that the other is their opponent. Marco and Celia will take you on a journey through their love for each other that can never be more than longing glances, stolen kisses that cause an entire room to blush with heat and circus tents disguised as love letters.
Join Le Cirque des Rêves on a journey you will not forget. After one reading you too will become a Rêveurs.
I have read this book multiple times and gifted many copies. One of my favorite books ever, I discover something new each time I read it. You will want to keep reading until the end and then want more. Reading tip: pay attention to the chapter headings; each chapter is a different time and location.

An extraordinary circus that only appears at night. A circus so incredible and fascinating that some call it magical, not realizing that they are closer to the truth than they thought. For behind the scenes two young magicians are locked in an epic battle, a struggle in which only one can be left standing- although they do now know this yet. Amidst the turmoil, the two find themselves falling headfirst in love, setting off a chain reaction with consequences for all. I loved the descriptions of the circus found throughout the story, which showed a wide scope of imagination. This was a beautiful novel to read, highly recommended for day dreamers and fans of fantasy. Luckily, the plot had enough mystery and intrigue to keep me reading it for more than the just the circus. However, one aspect that did suffer, or at least seem rushed, was the romance between Marco and Celia. With many elements to balance, it’s understandable that character development suffers sometimes. However, I had a hard time rooting for the two magicians to triumph and end up together, which made reading a bit of a challenge. Despite the troubles with relationship growth, this was still a highly enjoyable read. 4.5/5 Stars. @viedelabibliothèque of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

This book is reading outside the box for me. It was recommended by a friend, so I gave it a try. I liked the story line and the characters more than I expected. The ending, however, was disappointing for me. I did not see the "passing on" of the circus to a new lovable person as a "gift". Mild recommendation. Kristi & Abby Tabby
